Information about the AAMET Grandfathering System
This is a summary of how the AAMET grandfathering system works which should be read by applicants before submitting an application.
General Points:
The grandfathering system is intended to allow access to AAMET registration for people who have gained training and experience with EFT in ways other than training with an AAMET registered Trainer.
The application should be made using the appropriate form-add a link to the form. This asks for details of all training undertaken, details of all CPD activities, details of experience in practice plus the names of suitable referees who will be consulted to endorse the application.
This application form explains clearly that there is a fee for the Grandfathering service and how payment should be made. The current fee to Grandfather in is £50 for Practitioner/Advanced Practitioner levels and £100 for Trainer level.
This fee covers assessment of the application form and all documents and online resources that are supplied by the candidate to support their application. There may be a further fee if candidates are asked to submit case studies to confirm their status.
Please Note:
- The grandfathering system is not intended as a way for candidates to skip a level of training or a way to gain registration at a level that they are not currently experienced or skilled enough to merit.
- Candidates who are part way through training with an AAMET registered Trainer should continue with their training and gain AAMET certification via that route rather than use the Grandfathering system.
Candidates for Practitioner level registration must demonstrate in their form and supporting materials:
- That they have attained a minimum level of theoretical understanding of EFT equivalent to AAMET level 2 training.
- That they are suitably qualified to work as a professional therapist.
- That they have already gained some experience working professionally.
- That they are continuing to expand understanding and skills via CPD activities (ongoing learning).
Candidates for Advanced Practitioner level registration must demonstrate in their form and supporting materials:
- That they have attained a level of theoretical understanding of EFT equivalent to at least AAMET level 3 training.
- That they are suitably qualified to work as a professional therapist.
- That they have already gained substantial experience working professionally as a therapist.
- That they are continuing to expand understanding and skills via CPD activities (ongoing learning)
Candidates for Trainer level registration must demonstrate in their form and supporting materials:
- That they have attained a level of theoretical understanding of EFT equivalent to at least AAMET level 3 training.
- That they are suitably qualified to work as a professional therapist.
- That they have already gained substantial experience working professionally as a therapist.
- That they are continuing to expand understanding and skills via CPD activities (ongoing learning).
- That they have appropriate training and/or experience as a trainer/teacher, whether in EFT or other subjects.
- That they are already teaching EFT to at least Level 2.
- That they have created a suitable syllabus, assessment and training structure for their training courses and are willing to alter this to bring it into alignment with the AAMET structure and syllabus as required.
Following assessment of the application form and supporting materials successful candidates will be offered registration at the most appropriate level for their training and experience.
Each application is reviewed by at least 2 members of the AAMET assessment team before an offer is made.
The options for offers are:
1. No offer-application rejected-either insufficient information supplied, or candidate is unsuitable for AAMET registration.
2. Student level-more training needed to reach professional level. The Practitioner Assessment (Level 2 Multiple Choice test and Case Studies) may be offered as a way of upgrading if this is appropriate. There is a further charge for marking (£100) if this option is accepted.
3. OET (Other Energy Therapist) level – qualified in other energy therapies but has not demonstrated sufficient training or experience in EFT. The Practitioner Assessment (Level 2 Multiple Choice test and Case Studies) may be offered as a way of upgrading if this is appropriate. There is a further charge for marking (£100) if this option is accepted.
4. EFT Practitioner level. Suitable for immediate registration at Practitioner level. Where appropriate extra training has already been taken but not assessed the Advanced Practitioner Assessment may be offered (Level 3 case studies) as a way of attaining AP level.
5. EFT Advanced Practitioner Level. Suitable for immediate registration at Advanced Practitioner level.
6. Trainer Level - immediate, or conditional on amending training materials/training structure to come into alignment with AAMET. Where amendments are required the candidate may register immediately at Advanced Practitioner level and then upgrade once the amendments have been completed satisfactorily.
No refund will be given if the candidate is not satisfied with the offer made but they may refer the matter to the AAMET ethics committee for review if they wish to do so. The decision of the Ethics committee is final.
Successful candidates will receive their certification directly from AAMET when they have registered onto the AAMET website and paid the annual membership fee for their level of registration. They are not AAMET members unless registration has been completed.
Once registered as full AAMET members all candidates are required to conform to the current requirements for CPD and Mentoring in order to maintain that level of registration.
