Since I wrote to you in August about my appointment as executive vice chair of the AAMET, I’ve been working hard to set up the New AAMET for various practical and strategic reasons. Part of the new makeover includes giving AAMET a professional legal status and developing a brand new website that will provide a host of benefits for members. I’m proud to belong to AAMET and I’m passionate about EFT which is why I’ve taken on this demanding role. As members, I want you also to be part of these changes and share in AAMET’s growth and development. More importantly, the changes will bring benefits to you as members as well as for AAMET and you can read about some of these below.
“We must become the change we want to see.”
Mahatma Gandhi
On a personal note, I’ve just relocated from the UK to Gozo near Malta and, just like the changes within AAMET, I see it as adventurous and exciting with great opportunities ahead. Now I’m settled, I’m in a better position to focus on what needs to be done within AAMET...and the climate certainly helps keep me motivated!
What are the new proposals?
The following proposals which have, or will be, submitted to the Committee before being announced to members are:
- To establish the new AAMET as a non-profit making member organisation of professional practitioners
- For AAMET to be recognised as a legal, professional association with codes of practice and ethics, aims and objectives, training guidelines, complaints process, etc
- To reconstitute the present structure and move from a management team to a committee with a chairman, vice chair, treasurer and secretary. There will also be a sub-committee comprising an ethics committee, communications team, events co-ordinator and fundraiser
- That members be invited to annual general meetings (AGMs) where issues will be discussed and members elected onto the committee in accordance with the terms laid down by the association
- A new AAMET website to be developed that will be sustainable and easy to navigate.
If you’re currently a member of AAMET, your details cannot be transferred so you will need to re-apply to join the new website once it’s launched. Details will be sent out soon. There will be a joining fee, but as the new AAMET will be set up as a “not for profit Association” the fees will go towards creating and maintaining the association, the new website, advertising, affiliated membership fees, associated costs of becoming an association, etc.
The AAMET treasurer will submit financial accounts at the AGM and publish these to all members.
We are still discussing how fellows and other therapists will be listed on the new AAMET website, how registration will work and level of membership fees. We are also looking at the ways in which we can reinforce two-way communication, improve connectivity with members and generate a strong networking community which supports the fast, timely and accurate dissemination of important information.
What will this mean for the AAMET?
The current website will be closing down towards the end of the year but will be replaced immediately by a brand new website. If you want to re-join the new AAMET please send an email to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Once AAMET becomes a professional Association, its profile will be raised and it will allow us to, for example, apply to become NICE stakeholders and request affiliation to organisations such as the BCMA, CThA etc.. The new AAMET will become one of the largest associations to endorse and approve such high standards of meridian based EFT training which will give the public confidence and assurances when searching for a practitioner or trainer.
As a professional association, funds can be raised to go towards advertising the AAMET, conferences, etc. The AAMET will also support in any way it can the EFT Research currently being carried out in the UK (see news story on the burgeoning EFT Research Platform) that will hopefully have EFT accepted under NICE guidelines. There is much work going on in this area and GPs are already accepting qualified EFT practitioners into their practices.
What does this mean for you?
You will be recognised as a member of an accredited, approved and professional association that is accepted worldwide. You will have a comprehensive, consistent and professionally laid out training framework and benchmarks and receive ongoing support from professionals.
If you’re a practitioner, ask your trainer for details about what’s required in relation to your continuous personal development (CPD) or mentoring.
If you’re a trainer, please cascade this information to your students as soon as possible and encourage them to sign up to join the new AAMET so they’re kept informed of developments.
If you’re not a member of the AAMET or have allowed your CPD or mentoring hours to lapse, you might want to consider contacting your trainer to rectify this.
We will be announcing details about the association, the new website and how you can request an application form to join the new AAMET in due course.
It’s a lot to take in I appreciate and too much to detail to reasonably cover in one letter but hopefully I have given you an overview of our plans and proposals.
I welcome any comments or questions from all via email. All questions and answers will be posted in the next edition of AAMET Buzz.
Always happy to hear from you.
